EXCELLENCE IN HSE COMPLIANCE

Principal Designer

Picture
The revising of the CDM Regulations in 2015 developed a new duty holder to change the earlier purpose of CDM Co-ordinator throughout the design phase. CoreGenic Principal Designer CDM Advisor service will help guide you through the new legislation.
The Principal Designer is categorised as the person or company in control of the pre-construction stage. Usually this duty is allocated to the lead designer on a project. The Principal Designer is accountable for the preparation, management and supervising of health and safety factors of the design during the pre-construction period, considering the “principles of prevention” at each step.

Principal Designer CDM Role

A Principal Designer CDM has to be assigned on any construction project in which more than one contractor is anticipated to be involved. The overall responsibilities of the Designer within CDM 2015 are somewhat unaltered, with the emphasis being on recognition and eradication of risk, then subsequently to decrease and manage residual risk occurring from a design.
The new role of the Principal Designer calls for the design consultant to contend with increased duties in connection with the health and safety management of their own design, other design disciplines, the project site and its environment.
Principal Designer CDM duties include:
  • Counselling the client of their responsibilities.
  • Producing and circulating appropriate pre-construction details.
  • Continually considering the “principles of prevention”.
  • Verifying designer’s proficiency to perform their duties.
  • Coordinating all parties involved in the pre-construction period.
  • Communicating with the client and Principal Contractor during the planning, management, evaluation and co-ordination of the construction stage.
  • Developing, assessing and maintaining the project Health and Safety File.
