Principal Contractor

As the contractor on a building project you will be expected by your client to be designated as Principal Contractor and in specific circumstances you may be regarded as functioning as a Principal Contractor, irrespective of whether an official appointment was agreed. Principal Contractor CDM Role

Under the  CDM Regs 2015 a Principal Contractor needs to be identified for any project with more than one contractor. The Principal Contractor CDM is accountable for the preparation, management and supervising of the construction period. The new regulations placed the majority of culpability onto the Principal Contractor throughout this construction stage.
Principal Contractor’s duties include:
  • Developing and maintaining a acceptable construction stage strategy considering the risks identified in the pre-construction records.
  • Coordinating multi contractors.
  • Making sure contractors apply H&S measures and principles of prevention to comply with the construction phase plan.
  • Supply appropriate site induction, site guidelines, site security and workforce facilities throughout the construction stage.
  • Interact and communicate information with the Principal Designer pertinent to the Health and Safety File.
  • Consulting with workforce with regards to their health and safety.

CoreGenic Advisory Role

CoreGenic provide a project specific CDM contractor service to Principal Contractors.

  • Compiling the pre-construction information into an appropriate construction stage plan.
  • Communicating and compelling other duty holders of obligations & duties.
  • Assist in the development of site induction and rules.
  • Offering guidance on welfare facilities, site setup, security and safety matters.
  • Advise on creation of individual risk assessments and method statements for construction stage plan.
  • Performing site safety audits and reporting.
